FACULTY OF PHILOSOPHY AND LETTERS OF CORDOBA

The Faculty of Philosophy and Arts of Cordoba was established in 1971 as a University College associated with the University of Seville. Two years later, it became a Faculty when it joined the newly created University of Cordoba. Its headquarters, which it shared with the Faculty of Law until 1983, is located in the historic Jewish Quarter, in the emblematic Hospital del Cardenal Salazar. This hospital is one of the most notable examples of 18th-century civil architecture in Cordoba.

Originally conceived as a school for the acolytes and choirboys of the Cathedral, it was converted into a hospital in 1724 after a terrible plague epidemic that affected Cordoba at the beginning of that century and revealed the lack of medical care facilities.
